Otter Rock Cleanup, this Saturday

Join Surfrider Foundation Newport Chapter in a cleanup of plastic fragments and other marine debris washed in by the recent storm this coming Saturday January 25, 2014.  Sign in time will be from 10am-11:15am and the cleanup will run from 10am-1pm.  Meet in the parking lot of Otter Rock State Park by the restroom facility where the surfers park.  The park is located approx. 8.5 miles north of Newport, Oregon.  Look for signs pointing to the turn off the west side of highway 101 for Otter Rock State Park.

Please bring reusable gloves, buckets, colanders with smaller holes, and appropriate attire for volunteering on the beach.  We will outfit you with gloves if you need them and bags for picking up and carrying debris.

Hot coffee will be available to volunteers at the sign in table sponsored by Central Roast Coffee in Newport, Oregon.

With the bout of recent storm activity, a mass of small plastics has washed ashore on the beach near the Otter Rock Marine Gardens where many organisms that filter feed live.  Come out and help Surfrider Foundation remove these plastic and foam fragments from the beach environment before our beloved tide pool and subsurface sea creatures ingest this plastic or it remains on our beaches we all would like to enjoy free of debris!
