This past weekend Newport Chapter's very own Peter Snell was nationally recognized at Surfrider Foundation's annual Wavemaker Awards Ceremony in San Clemente, California for excellence in chapter leadership. Pete's phenomenal coordination and organization of the derelict crab gear removal from Yaquina Head Outstanding natural area pushed him to the forefront of nominees in this category.

We couldn't be more proud of the amazing volunteer efforts Peter has displayed over the past few years. Rising up from a beach cleanup volunteer, to beach captain, to Chapter beach cleanup coordinator, Peter has truly found his way down the leadership funnel at Surfrider. He's taken beach cleanups to a whole new level and will soon be working on a new project supported by NOAA's Marine Debris Program to develop rapid response cleanup protocols and guidelines, expanding on the amazing work he's done thus far to protect our oceans, waves and beaches. Learn more about Pete's story that earned him this distinguished recognition among the best of Surfrider here.
