Preparations are under way for the 2017 Newport Seafood and Wine Festival. Sign-up is now open HERE! This is the Newport Chapter of Surfrider's biggest and most important fundraiser of the year. The proceeds earned at this event cover the majority of the annual supply cost of the Blue Water Task Force (BWTF) water testing program for local beaches from Lincoln City to Seal Rock. The BWTF is the Surfrider Foundation’s volunteer-run, water testing, education and advocacy program.
We will have a whole new booth and theme this year. Check out our new Surf Shack/Tiki Bar (under construction, thank you Leo) it will be complete with Tiki torches, paper lantern lights, other luau/surf type decorations. We will be serving wine and mixing mimosa’s while showing surf films on the back wall of the Surf Shack, all while wearing brightly colored Hawaiian shirts (we will provide if you don’t have one sized to wear over your winter clothing – we want them as the outer layer). This should be a very fun booth this year.
It takes 25 to 30 awesome volunteers to make this event a success. The shifts are 3 to 3 1/2 hours long, sign up soon for your favorite shift or two. It's fun (even when it's a bit crazy) and along with the satisfaction of knowing that you have helped Surfrider's efforts towards Ocean Protection you will receive a pass for the festival. (The organizers do ask that you avoid Saturday for your personal visits).
We will again be representing Charles and Charles Winery. Huge thanks for their continued support, we could not do this without them.
Volunteer servers will need to attend a server training in Newport unless you happen to hold a OLCC servers permit. The training dates are:
