With the impending council meeting in Newport to pass a resolution in support of statewide legislation to ban plastic checkout bags and encourage the use of reusable bags, it's important that you're armed with the facts of this issue. Our chapters across the country have been working hard on this issue for over 4 years, campaigning, setting sail on the Pacific and Atlantic to research marine debris, doing outreach and education to the public and working with state legislators and coalition members to find a unified strategy to help RISE ABOVE PLASTICS! It's time for our coastal communities to step up and we're proud of the City of Newport for working on a resolution to support this important issue at the statewide level. For those who have not been reached or well educated on the issue of plastics in our oceans, high environmental impact of plastic vs. reusable and/or paper bags and the ever growing problem of our addiction and consumption of single use plastics that live forever, please check out our campaign one pager to get the simple straight forward facts for Oregon. Get educated, get the facts and help us rise above plastics!
