At some point today, I hope you took a moment to think about what Earth Day means to you. Or maybe you not just thought about it, but you also had an emotion tied to it. Perhaps that thought AND emotion led you to a certain behavior, an action if you will. An action that somehow re-affirmed, or even gave birth to, a much deeper concept of what Earth Day means to you as an individual, or as one directly connected with the Earth.
Earth is my home. It is your home. It allows "me" to exist. It allows "you" to exist. And in this existence many of us don't think past the "me" level. Or past the "you" level. We are often too busy and overwhelmed by pressing matters to really let go and soak it all in deeply. Too busy to let the beauty of Earth in all its forms soak into your pores and dance with your cells. Too busy to let your repetitive thoughts drift away and allow your senses to replace center stage and be filled with the sights, sounds, smells, feelings, and tastes of the Earth.
Stop thinking. Go outside. Lay in the grass. Or the dirt. Or climb a tree. Or sit on the beach and watch the sunset. And let go. Let the Earth into your senses. As much of it that wants to come in, let it. And really let yourself feel it. No one else is watching. It's just you and the Earth. Now Celebrate.
Celebrate that connection you just had. And duplicate it. Not next year, but tomorrow. And the next day. And the next. The Earth wants to have that connection with you everyday. Not just once a year. Heavens no...
If you really dug that feeling, that sense of awe, that un-definable Oh My Gosh moment, there's something more to this! You best take the time to be in that space as often as possible. Not just once a day...but throughout the day. Take a moment off once in a while, and let that moment take as long as it needs...this is the Earth connecting with you.
And of course, as the Earth gives to you everything you need to exist, to survive, to love...it needs something back to. It needs your love, and respect; it needs stewards that have that sense of un-definable awe to take care of it, and to teach others how to be in awe. There's a million ways to get to that space...just as there's a million ways to go the wrong way. Every day the Earth gives you thousands of chances to re-connect with it. Let EVERYDAY be your Earth Day.
