Join the Newport Chapter of Surfrider Foundation, Bureau of Land Management and Oregon Parks and Recreation Department to help remove derelict crabbing gear from a pristine cobblestone beach at the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area. A few volunteers can make a big difference in a short amount of time. For this project, individuals 14 and over are requested due to the rocky terrain at the project site.
Our project goal is to remove floats attached to rope on the beach and carry the floats away for proper disposal. Be aware this site requires descending and ascending a flight of over 100 stairs to the cobblestone beach. Rubber boots are recommended or sturdy boots. To cut the floats off the rope please bring your own knife (capable of cutting a durable rope) and bring work gloves if you have them. Surfrider Foundation will supply gloves if for volunteers needing them and bags to carry debris from the site. With your help we can prevent the foam floats from breaking apart on the rocks and littering our beloved coastline for years to come!
