Get Earthquake Savvy! October 4th.

Are you prepared for a major earthquake and tsunami?

Joking aside, it is a good idea to have more than beer at the ready. The threat of a mega earthquake is real and some preparation and knowledge will go a long way towards your safety and comfort.

Join Surfrider and co-hosts Sea Grant for a special evening with Pat Corcoran, coastal natural hazards specialist, on Tuesday, October 4th. Pat will address what citizens need to know to be earthquake and tsunami savvy. Find out the odds of having the Big One in your lifetime, how to be prepared and where to evacuate to to when hanging out at your favorite local beach or surfing at your go to Newport break. You might be surprised.

Patrick Corcoran is an OSU Sea Grant, coastal natural hazards specialist, based at the Clatsop County Extension office in Astoria, OR. His goal is to help coastal residents and communities become more resilient to natural hazards. Patrick engages university researchers and coastal residents in collaborative research and shared learning about the nature of coastal natural hazards; helps communities identify their vulnerability to hazards; and connects local people with data and decision support tools designed to help communities adapt to coastal hazards. Patrick’s primary areas of work are tsunami preparedness, coastal storms and shoreline change.
