Public Invited to Celebrate Cascade Head Marine Reserve July 18

The Friends of Cascade Head Marine Reserve invites the general public to come out and join them Saturday, July 18th for a day of fun and ecology-based activities, celebrating the land-sea connection of the terrestrial preserve and the newly established Marine Reserve in the adjacent waters. The free, family-friendly event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Knight Park, the public boat launch site just off North Three Rocks Road near the mouth of the Salmon River. From boat tours to guided hikes, fish grill, kids art activities and awesome music from the Lucky Gap String Band, there's something here for everyone!

You've likely hiked the awesome Cascade Head trails, maybe taken in the tidepools at Roads End or enjoyed the Salmon River estuary and it's unparalleled recreation and beauty where it meets the Pacific; but did you know about the special protections that now exist here linking our land and sea? The Cascade Head Marine Reserve, which went into effect in early 2014 boasts many special resources, wildlife and geographic features that make it unique amongst Oregon's system of 5 marine reserves. Participants at the celebration event will learn all about this unique and special place through a variety of activities. From hosting the largest nearshore reef complex on the Oregon coast to the only marine reserve and protected area with an adjacent estuary, Cascade Head is truly a special and magnificent place worthy of protection by both land and sea - join us and learn all about it!
