After launching off the summer with the Clean Water Classic in Westport, WA, the Newport Chapter has been taking advantage of other local surf contests and soaking up some summer fun and waves along the way. Most recently, the chapter tabled at the Cape Kiwanda Longboard Classic in Pacific City, an event that drew hundreds of spectators, contestants and volunteers. The chapter signed up new members and educated the general public and spectators on local water quality issues. Later, on the final day of the competition, the Portland chapter joined in to help host a beach cleanup after the event concluded. Last month, the Newport chapter similarly participated in the CSO contest in Lincoln City.
