Ban Packaging Peanuts in Maine!

The Surfrider Foundation Maine Chapter supports the passage of LD 476- An Act to Ban the Sale of Polystyrene Packing Peanuts in the State of Maine. 

The chapter is working closely with Oceana, which is leading this effort, to ensure that the state of Maine bans the sale of packaging peanuts. 

Packaging peanuts are a major environmental threat; they are non-biodegradable, and over time can break down into microplastics which are harmful for our oceans, marine life, and overall health. 

Mariel Geiger, the Chapter's Climate and Policy lead, testified for LD 476 at the state house on 3/3/25.
