Devils Punch Bowl – Asphalt Debris Removal from beach.
The Oregon State park rangers in Newport are asking for help in removing asphalt chunks that fell from higher parking lot areas onto the beach at Devil’s Punch Bowl. The asphalt poses environmental hazards to marine life due to the tar and oils it contains. The rangers are worried the winter storms will make it very difficult to remove the chunks once they come in November and December and bury and break apart the chunks and make access to them harder. We need 8 to 15 committed volunteers to help break up and load the chunks onto trailers the rangers will be driving on the beach. So, carrying will be minimal but some lifting is required. If interested please sign up at the following link so we know we have enough volunteers to make this happen.
